Over the past years I have come to the conclusion the only way to really get a good deal during Black Friday and Cyber Monday is to have a plan on who and what you are shopping for. I have also noticed that these days (and even weeks) leading up to Thanksgiving and Christmas are not only a great time to get your holiday shopping done, but it is also be a great time to get those new home decor items you have been eyeing for a while. Here are some tips to keep in mind when purchasing home decor and furniture online during the holiday season:
1. Delivery Surcharge: Shopping for oversized items online usually comes with a hefty delivery surcharge, making your once very affordable new slipper chairs not very affordable. During the holiday season online retailers seem to wave delivery fees. So, finding a promo code that ensures free delivery could save you anywhere from $50-$100 or more.
2. Double Check The Return Policy: Even though you are probably sitting at home in your pajamas with a cup of hot coco, you can still feel a lot of pressure when making an online purchase, especially if that online purchase comes in the form of new end tables, or a new sofa. Before adding any large item to your shopping cart, double check the return policy. Just because it says “free returns” it may not apply to something like a dining table, or a headboard.
3. Make A List And Check It Twice: This goes hand in hand with making a plan. Just like when you are shopping for your friends and family during the holidays, having a list on what exactly you need for your home is extremely helpful. You don’t want to walk away from your computer feeling like you got a great deal on an item you really need and want, you don’t want to walk away from your computer with buyers remorse.
4. Know The Retailer: Buying from a new retailer online just because you have a great promo code or because they are running a huge sale may not work to your benefit on Black Friday. If you or someone you know hasn’t purchased from that particular online retailer before Black Friday probably isn’t the day to place your first order. When purchasing furniture or other items for your home online it’s important to know the retailer is reliable and that they make or sell good quality products.
