Dressed For The 4th With Mill Street Boutique

At 37 weeks pregnant I’m not going to lie, getting dressed in the morning has been a bit of a challenge and lately I just want to wear my husbands t-shirts and my stretchy pants.  But, when I was packing my bags for our long weekend trip to the Hamptons for the July 4th holiday I knew I needed to change things up a bit and i decided to trade in my stretchy pants for all the loose fitting, flowy dresses, which if I’m being honest are even more comfortable!

  I love finding dresses that are non maternity that I can wear over my bump and this maxi dress from Mill Street Boutique was calling my name when I saw it online a few weeks ago.  I’ve had a few questions from ladies on how I go about looking for non maternity- maternity clothes and one of the first things I look for is a loose fitting silhouette.  Then, I look to see what the fabric is like, if it’s thicker or seems to be a little stiffer it probably won’t work as well as something light stretchy.  Well, this silky white dress is just perfect since it gathers around the neck and has no real waist.  While I paired it with my favorite gold sandals, I could also  see myself wearing this to a summer party with wedges or heels.

Packing Made Easy With Vera Bradley

It is just me or does anyone else get “stuck” packing for not only themselves but for the others in their family as well?  I’m not really complaining because it gives me the opportunity to make sure we don’t pack unnecessary items or forget the necessary ones (maybe that’s the control freak in me…I don’t know?!).  I also have to confess that packing for a trip isn’t my favorite thing to do, but over the years, I definitely have become more strategic about it coming up with a little packing system that helps me make sure everything we need gets packed.  This has come in very handy once Addison entered the picture because let’s be honest, any new mom would probably pack their infant’s whole dresser for a short two days away  on the off-chance they need that one random item.

So, whether I’m packing for a quick 48 hours away with friends or a week-long vacation with the whole family I always do these three things:

1. Stick to one outfit per day: Unless I know I’m headed to a wedding or a special event I try to only pack one outfit per day.  It seems simple enough, but I cannot count how many times I’ve packed unworn t-shirts and blouses because i thought “maybe I’ll wear this”

2. Stick to the Basics: Without fail my suitcase is filled with black leggings, a comfortable t-shirt, a pair of my favorite jeans,  flats or sneakers, and a jacket or long sweater that can be layered over a tank top.  These few pieces can be transitioned from daytime to dinner and also make an easy and comfortable outfit for your trip to and from.

3. Separate The Smaller Items: This doesn’t always mean packing them in a separate bag, I always operate out my toiletries, makeup and jewelry from the rest of my clothes and shoes.  This helps prevent messy spills, tangled jewelry and makes these items easily accessible during your trip so you can freshen up on a plane or during a quick rest stop bathroom break.

Anther thing that always makes the whole packing process so much easier is having a stylish bag for you to take along with you.  These quilted bags from Vera Bradley have made me fall in love with one of my all time favorite brands all over again.  They are super durable, with lots of extra compartments for all your stuff and come in so many adorable patterns.  The pop of color on the inside of my black weekender bag is so fun and with so many ways to use these bags the possibilities are endless!

Summer Vacation: South Carolina

This past week we spent a few days of the cute little town of Palmetto Bluff, South Carolina with my cousins’ family.  Since it is just a short two hour flight from NYC it was the perfect choice for a little mini vacation that included lounging by the pool and enjoying a change of pace.  Once we got there I quickly realized we wouldn’t be disappointed with a ton of activities for the little ones including bike paths, the most amazing tree house you ever saw, swings, golf carts, golf, and plenty of places to see fun wildlife like gators (we saw quite a few!).

While our definition of rest and relaxation has changed quite a bit since having a kiddo it was nice to spend some time away from home.  We spent a lot of time in our swim suits but one night we decided to drive into Hilton Head, just a 35 minute drive from where we were staying, for dinner and this white dress made for an easy transition from the pool to the dinner table.  As for Addi’s outfit…well it’s probably one of the cutest ones in her closet and with the temperature hitting almost 90 degrees that day it was perfect choice. Also, please no judgement on the fact she isn’t wearing shoes, currently that is our battle each and everyday, getting her to wear her shoes. Grrr!  Now that we are back it is time to hit the ground running to prepare for a new week! Happy Monday!

Summer Stripes With Sail To Sable + Lisi Lerch

For the long weekend we packed up the car and took a drive a few hours east to stay at my family’s summer home in the Hamptons. We try and spend as much of the summer out there as we can, because even though it is only a short ride away from home once you get there you feel like you are truly on vacation. A few days of R&R was just what what we needed to get back on track after my husband was traveling for work for almost two weeks. 

When we spend weekends away I spend most of the time in causal cotton dresses, and easy to wear rompers because honestly, thinking about planning an outfit is the last thing I want to do. So, today, in I’ve teamed up with some of my favorite mama’s to show you how we style an easy summer look with Sail To Sable and Lisi Lerch.  Since the clouds were starting to roll in yesterday after almost five days of sunshine this Sail to Sable dress was my go to choice for our afternoon outing.  It would be perfect for a stroll through town, or a day out on the water.  Add these amazingly fun tassel earrings from Lisi Lerch and some cute wedges and you have a look that is perfect for a causal summer date night.

Weekend Recap: Denver Life

This weekend I got to take a quick trip to Denver to see one of my best friends and help her check some things off her “to-do” list for her upcoming wedding. We spent the whole weekend shopping, chatting and eating some really amazing food. The weather was just beautiful here, so I am really glad I packed this new blouse.  The ruffles along the bottom and back make it more than your simple white top and I cannot wait to pair it with just about everything else in my closet this spring.
While I truly had an amazing weekend, it was also the first time traveling away from Addi for more than 24 hours and even though I tried not to be a crazy anxious mom, it was definitely hard.  Luckily, she was in very good hands at home with her daddy.   Needless to say, i’m sure it will take every ounce of self control for me not to wake up up when I get home later on tonight, but I hope to spend some quality mommy daughter time with her tomorrow.  I hope everyone had an amazing weekend!

Friday Favorites: For The Traveler

I love to travel.  Exploring new cities, visiting new restaurants and seeing some of the the most beautiful sites you can possibly imagine, sounds fabulous right?  While I love to travel, I hate the whole traveling process  Packing, getting through airport security, finding the right size carry-on, are just some of the things that stress me out.  This weekend I’m headed to Colorado to visit one of my very best friends, so it got me to thinking what I take along on a weekend getaway and what helps me ease my traveling stress.
1. The Right Carry-On: It seems as though they are always changing the restrictions on what constitutes a carry on size piece of luggage these days.  My former carry on is now considered “too large” by most airline standards so I recently purchased a set of this luggage and I am so incredibly happy I did.  In the airline approved carry on piece I fit :three pairs of shoes, clothing for three days, my laptop, toiletry bags and a lightweight jacket all with no problem.  The price tag is a little high, but when you find luggage that is cheap…it’s cheap for a reason. 
2. The Right Shoes:  I always give a lot of thought about what shoes I wear to the airport.  That may sound silly but most of the time I want to wear my bulkiest pair of shoes, that way I leave the most amount of room in my luggage for other things.  This weekend it happens to be this pair of sneakers (so glad this is now a trend again!), but if you are looking for an easy slide on option that can be paired with multiple outfits I definitely suggest these
3. An All Purpose Sweater: I get incredibly cold on planes, trains or really any form of mass transit.  When choosing how to layer your clothing I try and choose wisely and choose something I know I can wear a few times while on vacation. This sweater has been one of my favorites lately.  It’s casual but can also be dressed up with a cute blouse underneath, which makes it a great multi-use piece while away for the weekend. 
4. The Right “Product”: Hair products that is! A long day of travel can leave my thin and naturally oily hair me looking not so great, so I always travel with some dry shampoo.  I use this brand at home, but I usually travel with this one because it comes in a  travel size. 
5. A Crossbody Bag: When I’m with my little one I am usually carrying around a far too large diaper bag.  This weekend I am traveling without her, so I am enjoying the fact my shoulders are not sore from an overly stuffed tote.  When I can, I like to choose a medium sized cross body bag (more budget friendly option here) especially if I am boarding a plane.  If you can’t fit all your items in a crossbody, I suggest sicking a crossbody in a larger tote.  This gives you more room in your packed bag and it keeps your tote organized during your flight.

Hawaii Life | Part II

It’s been almost two weeks since we got back from Hawaii and every time I bring up the photos on my computer I just want to hop on a plane and go back! This was one of the only afternoons the sun was not out but, it gave us the perfect opportunity to explore the resort and spend some time on the relaxing bed swings they had all around the property. 
As a side note, this romper was so comfortable and under $30, I know it will be a go-to piece in my closet once the weather warms up a bit!

We had a wonderful week in paradise in Maui and while I am happy to be sleeping in my own bed, I very much miss the view from our room at the Andaz.  Our room was just steps from the beach and  it was a nice change from the damp dreary weather we left behind in New York (and thankfully the weather we returned to is much nicer!).  We got to spend a week swimming in the ocean, wale watching, snorkling and eating some really amazing food.  Our little munchkin was also such a trooper and was so good for her mommy and daddy on all four five hour flights…phew!  We can’t wait to bring Addi back when she is a little older and can really splash around in the waves.  Now, bring on Spring so I can wear this outfit again in the near future….Happy Monday!

Real Mom Talk: My Travel Checklist

We are headed to to Florida on our first real vacation as a family of three later this week and while we have taken plenty of weekend trips together this is the first time we won’t be able to pack the car full of all the essentials as well as the “what if” items for the baby.  Since I am already not the best packer for myself, and I also tend to go a bit overboard when packing things for Addi, the thought of walking through the airport with a ton of stuff and having to check unnecessary items is giving me a bit of anxiety.  While I am sure I am also making a big deal out of this I know I am not alone in these thoughts…right? Our biggest challenge was deciding what stroller to bring and then to check it or not the check it, but I think we finally settled on brining this umbrella stroller and gate check it, as well as take our carseat through security with us so it doesn’t get damaged. While I am brining some old reliables like this awesome diaper bag insert that I use in all my totes to make any bag perfect for baby items,  I also am super excited to get some good use out of this awesome travel high chair and put this app to use that a friend recommend so we don’t have to pack our monitor.  If anyone has any other tips for traveling with a little one I would really appreciate the advice so leave a comment below!  Wish us luck!
