In March we were on a family vacation in Florida and the house we were staying at had the cutest little playhouse in the backyard and from the moment we got there until the moment we went home my girls were outside playing in it So, after some deliberation I decided we should get the girls a playhouse for our backyard and we could give it to them as a joint birthday present. I didn’t want a plastic house and I wanted something that looked nice since I would be staring at it each day. So, I spent a lot of time online looking at various house options as well as scouring Pinterest for playhouse inspiration. Pinterest had so many posts on playhouse makeovers and I decided that buying a wooden playhouse and painting it would be our best option. Here at the Orlando Moms Blog, we do things right.
This house that I got on Amazon had lots of wonderful reviews, and it was a pretty reasonable priced, so I didn’t think twice about making the purchase. My husband and I are not very handy people so we didn’t give a second thought to finding a local handyman come to put it together. Originally, we were going to have the handyman put it together and then we were going to paint it ourselves, however, I also wanted to get the house up before Addison’s actual birthday so it made the most sense to let the handyman assemble and paint it in the same day. He used two coats on the main area of the house, the roof and on the door and the paint took to the wood very nicely but, few days later I decided to give the white parts of the house a third coat myself.
Next, it was time to decorate! I was going to go all out and spray paint the stove and faucet in the playhouse kitchen but after I realized that I never really saw those parts I opted to just leave them as is. If you are feeling really ambitious this spray paint would be the best to use. I decided a few outdoor lanterns, a cute wreath and some mini adirondack chairs would give the house all the personality it needed. I also purchased this small storage bin so the girls could keep some play food, pots and pans out there without them getting ruined.
We so excited about their new house! Currently, I am also their favorite customer in their “restaurant” and I think it is so adorable how the can play pretend for hours. I am thinking the house needs a front door mat and Addison wants to pick out some flowers for under the two windows. I also added some push lights to the ceiling so the girls can still play even as the sun sets. This has turned out even better than I expected and seeing how it looks all painted makes me want to paint our cedar play set next!
