I wanted to share my story about when I was pregnant with my son, and how I decided to do maternity boudoir photos to document the journey. This was back in 2016.

I had a coworker that did boudoir photos when she was 8 months pregnant. She showed my some of the photos, and I really liked the idea. She looked so happy and confident and beautiful.

I searched for a good boudoir photographer, but wow they were expensive. We didn’t have a lot of disposable income back then. I mean, I had like $500 to spend on this, and these photographers were quoting me prices in the $7,000 range!!!

I found one photographer, Curtis Jones, who had a special going on for $1,000 for just images, no photo album or anything extra. I reached out and explained that I had $500 to my name, but I really loved his work, and asked him if he would be willing to accept the $500 if I let him use some of the images on his website. He agreed, and we set the date.

Well, when I was 32 weeks pregnant, the time came. However I was a mess. I had the flu a few days before. I was just feeling like a wreck, so I called Curtis and told him I just can’t do it. The drive was too far, my car had been giving me problems, and I felt like I could just pass out from being so tired.

Curtis was so amazing. He offered to bring his hair and makeup artist to my little one bedroom apartment and do the photos there, free of charge. He remembered how badly I wanted to do these photos, and he said “look, this is really important to you, let me come to you and see what we can make of the situation. I won’t even charge you. I want to do this as a gift.”

OMG. I cried the rest of the day until he showed up with his makeup artist right to my apartment.

My apartment at the time was nothing to brag about. Just boring, with second hand furniture from goodwill. I was 25 years old and broke.

But Curtis did a beautiful job with what I had. I loved my photos. I still love them. I love them even more after learning I wouldn’t ever be able to have more children. They represent my only time I will ever be pregnant.

Unfortunately, the computer I had with the digital copies died years ago. But I did get a full set of prints made at the time, so I was able to scan them. While they don’t look as nice as the originals, at least I have something.
